Down On Your Luck in Monster Island – Law, Order and Hapless Explorers

I have been working for awhile with some side projects related to my campaign in Monster Island. As a result of those I also created a few Encounters that might be useful in Monster Island or possibly even other places play.

Monster Island is a wonderful place for hex crawl type activities and this is what the party has been doing the last few sessions using several new things I have been working on. Extended conflicts have been used from M-Space and they are actually rather wonderful way of setting heists, chases etc up. More on that later. I have been using Johnn Fourr’s Campaign Logger to build up a personal private campaign log. It is truly good way of tracking your campaign with minimal effort and the latest addition of random generators that you can either keep private or use what they provide or contribute as open source have been extremely useful. More on that also later.

In my campaign Monster Island is of course an alternate form of Loral – perhaps a touch more accessible than in the official lore but still plenty tough and modified to fit my Fonrit.  Fonritans of course want to exploit the riches of the island. M’Simba M’Samba the Green Walker is around but not seen…   Some wish to see him, others definitely do not.  Beware what you wish for you might get it, and it might not be what you thought it was.

Governor’s Guard is a small of group of toughest mercenaries so far seen. White Death is a larger group of mercenaries brought in to keep law and order. Stingers is militia volunteers.

The following parties might be encountered

You will likely find more useful encounters with the Encounter Generator.

Serpent Folk Brotherhoods of Monster Island

Serpent folk of the Monster Island supplement are prone to forming brotherhoods around their profession. The brotherhoods have their headquarters in Brotherhood Guild Houses – buildings that can be targets for inquisitive players.

There are more than a  dozen brotherhoods mentioned  in the supplement.  Brotherhoods are strong even in thase days of waning serpent folk strength.

Here are some guild house denizens that can be generated with the Encounter Generator one could meet while venturing into or close to brotherhood strongholds.

More will come later….

There are also new parties created

..and corresponding individual enemies

To see the Monster Island and die – Monstropedia of Loral

Here are few new denizens of the beautiful island called Loral. It is populated by rare endangered pieces unified in their approach to life (hate the intruders). There is rather large treasure ship wrecked on the island and there used to be God Learners here long time ago so the historians are of course quite interested in the island. The below natural exhibits are imagined for RQ6 Encounter Generator. Among the less educated the island is called Monster Island.   The sources have been the Tradetalk #13, Guide to Glorantha and Men at Sea.

Some are really co-operative and are driven by the sense to please (their palates) and fulfill their heart’s desire (hate the intruders). Some of these are bad news indeed.

There are other pages on Monster Island

RQ Encounter Generator Creates Lycanthropes in Glorantha

I was reading the RQ2 rulebook electronic version that I received as part of the Kickstarter and noticed that I had missed many of the lycanthropes in the RQ Encounter Generator. Did a bit of search and found that Sandy had done a nice piece on Lycanthropes in Glorantha (I thought it was in Forgotten Secrets of Glorantha but on re-checking cannot find where the original source is) so decided to add all of those

According to Sandy – were jackals do not have a tribe associated with them anymore. All others are Hsunchen

There are other were folk in Glorantha but these are now described.

Monster Island Weapons

Monster Island is one of the coolest supplements for Runequest currently. All the enemies (and the occasional friend) can be generated from RQ6 Encounter Generator – search with Monster Island tag.  Sometimes you might wonder what do the weapons the natives are using look like. I gathered here a small board showing an example of all the weapons listed in Monster Island supplement I could find.

Return to Monster Island Completed

Went thru the Monster Island and found a few missing creatures hiding here and there.

This is the list – this should complete all the creatures presented in the Monster Island set.

Added also one old obscure one from the Pavis and Big Rubble

All the bands have now Musicals instruments which is a new additional feature

Return to Monster Island

I felt compelled to return to Monster Island with RQ Encounter Tool. Here are some of the few missing colourful creatures from the Monster Island book. Cob Hobblers are a particularly nasty end to player character career – not even to talk about the nasty Vorslurp.

Plants have had additions too in the plants additional feature

  • Deathdrip Flower
  • Moon Flower
  • Spinedragon Tree

These are visible for example in the Monster Island Daily Event

All of the Monster Island enemies have been updated to include abilities description and other tuneups. You will find these at Enemies and Parties page with filter “Monster Island”

Zombies have had some new additions as well – mostly with Delecti’s Swamp in mind
